Sitara Hooseria

Sitara Hooseria is a writer and artist whose work explores the body as a landscape of inheritance and transformation. Her writing digs into the earthy, the visceral, and the sacred. She writes through the lens of her queer and trans experience, seeking words where words are hard to find. Her short story The Ocean of Milk appears in the Major Arcana anthology from Mirari Press.

Her poetry and/or drawings have been published in New Contrast Literary Journal, Ons Klyntji Zine, Make Muck Zine, and Babel Tower Zine.

Originally from a small town called Kriel in Mpumalanga, she moved to Cape Town to study at the University of Cape Town, from where she holds a BSc in Chemistry and Oceanography, a BSc(Hons) in Chemistry and is currently completing her MSc in Chemistry.

When she is not in the lab, Sitara can be found daydreaming, lost in song, writing, reading, always humming, and definitely finding a way to hang out with her friends.
