Bloodbird | Erica Livingston

Erica Livingston is a poet and author of literary speculative novel, Bloodbird. Infused with razor-sharp symbolism, dark humour, and aching beauty, her debut is a poetic exploration of trauma, desire and transformation. Set in the coastal town of Gordon’s Bay, Bloodbird follows the story of a poet who unknowingly curses herself by writing a haiku in a moment of despair.

Erica’s writing delves into heartbreak, unlikely friendship and the consequences of delayed trauma. The writer is passionate about poetry and was shortlisted for the 2023 New Contrast Poetry Prize. Literary journals including New Contrast Literary Journal, Stanzas Poetry Magazine, Ons Klyntji Zine, and New Coin Poetry have published her poems. The anthology In Other Stories (Karavan Press) included her flash contribution for their 2024 edition. She lives in Gordon’s Bay, Cape Town, with her husband and daughter.
