Mirari Press has acquired Death Rattle, the debut speculative fiction novel by Lebogang Matseke.
Death Rattle tells the story of Kgosi Morabe – the cursed daughter of Death – who traverses the Afterlife to confront a legacy of betrayal, silence, and spiritual duty. Merging Yoruba and Setswana mythologies with post-apartheid South African settings, the novel explores what it means to carry generational wounds and the healing power of truth.
"Death Rattle is a novel of searing intelligence, grief and metamorphosis," says Marius du Plessis, CEO and Publisher. "The textured family dynamics, the visceral language, the threads of lives lost and found: Death Rattle is a profoundly layered, moving story. It's a privilege to bring this book, and the enchanting Lebogang, into the Mirari family."
